Annual Report 2023

Annual and financial reports

With Terre des hommes, your donation is in good hands. We would very much like to express our heartfelt thanks to the donors and partners who support us in everything that we are achieving together for children, their families and their communities.

Your generosity and trust give us the strength every morning to move mountains – yes, mountains – to ensure that millions of children and young people in vulnerable situations have a childhood worthy of the name.

Because every child in the world has the right to a childhood. It’s that simple.

Take a look at our annual report

The income available to our Foundation makes it possible for us to support children, defend their rights, and meet extraordinary young people who teach us incredible lessons about courage, resilience and willpower each and every day.

A closer look at your donation

80% of the donations received by Terre des hommes in 2023 was spent on our projects supporting children worldwide through our health, migration and access to justice programmes. The other 20% covers the organisation’s running costs such as administration, communications and fundraising. This proportion meets the standard set for efficient management of your donations by the ZEWO seal of approval for charitable organisations in Switzerland.

To support children over the long-term, we are committed to expanding our private and public fundraising, and ensuring that our various activities grow in a controlled manner.

Our resources

Our foundation’s income comes from donations made by the general public, philanthropy, bequests, institutional funding providers, and other bodies throughout Switzerland and abroad. These funds enable us to actually run our organisation, both in countries where we are active and at our headquarters in Switzerland.

Support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is the body of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) responsible for Switzerland's international cooperation activities. It has been a very important partner of Terre des hommes for many years. Through its financial contribution to our international programme (CHF 8 million in 2023), it supports the high-quality implementation of projects developed by our organisation for the benefit of children. We also receive a number of assignments from the SDC (CHF 3.86 million in 2023).
