The leading Swiss children's rights organisation Terre des hommes has launched the first online learning course on children’s rights for Arabic speakers. Recommended by the United Nations and members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the programme is aimed at practitioners working with children and youth to improve their understanding of children's rights.

Terre des hommes, the leading Swiss organisation dedicated to protecting and promoting children's rights worldwide, is proud to announce the launch of the Arab MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on Children’s Rights, made by and with Arab professionals. Developed in collaboration with seven prestigious universities and professors from the Arab region (Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Iraq and Lebanon), this initiative represents a significant milestone in advancing the rights and well-being of children and youth. Its significance is underscored by the current crises in the Arab region, highlighting the urgent need to safeguard children's rights amid global threats.

Commenting on the launch, Marta Gil Gonzalez, Deputy Head of Justice Programmes at Terre des hommes, remarked, "More than ever, it is essential to equip students, professionals and the citizenship in general with the necessary information and expertise to protect and promote children's rights - especially in regions facing major crisis and conflict, where children's rights are compromised. The launch of the Arab MOOC is a crucial moment for us to emphasise our ongoing commitment to safeguarding children's rights in all the countries of the Arab region.”

Recommended by members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child and the United Nations Secretary General of the Special Representative on Violence Against Children, the Arab MOOC on Children’s Rights is tailored to practitioners working directly or indirectly with children and youth, as well as university and postgraduate students seeking to complement and specialise their academic education.

Easily accessible and individualised learning

One of the most remarkable features of the Arab MOOC on Children’s Rights is its accessibility. The course is entirely free of charge, ensuring that knowledge and resources on children's rights are available to all who seek to enhance their understanding and advocacy efforts in this critical field.

The MOOC on Children’s Rights comprises five comprehensive modules centred on children’s rights, covering contemporary issues such as violence against children, including in conflict; children's rights in climate crises and in the digital landscape; and access to justice. Each module, designed to be completed in approximately five hours, offers participants the flexibility to access course materials - including videos, podcasts, reading materials, quizzes, and more - at their own pace and convenience.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion, attesting to their proficiency in all modules covered.

In light of the recent events of war and enormous human consequences in the Middle East, with a worrying rise in disregard for children's rights, Terre des hommes invites individuals, organisations, and institutions to join this initiative and contribute to building a future where every child's rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled.
